Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd win £2million Contracts boost

Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd – a world leader in circuit breaker technology – has secured circa £2 million worth of contracts from a major UK energy distribution company.

The largest contract, worth around £1.1 million, will see Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd continue to supply Western Power Distribution (WPD) with its latest Eclipse indoor demountable breaker systems until March 2008.

The Eclipse combines the reliability and performance of vacuum interrupters with the market’s most advanced operating mechanism and has become the company’s fastest growing 15kV fixed pattern metalclad vacuum switchgear solution.

Compact and easy to install, each panel can be engineered to order and configured to meet the customer’s individual needs. It also boasts the latest ‘fit and forget’ technology; a low energy mechanism with superior operator safety features; and an integral monitoring module that provides complete control.

WPD, which delivers electricity to some 2.5 million customers in the South West of England and South and West Wales, has also chosen Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd to supply pole mounted auto reclosers until March 2008 – with an option to extend the contract by a further 12 months.

Worth an estimated £400,000 the contract will see Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd supply WPD with the company’s award-winning GVR switchgear that provides intelligent control and protection against transient faults on above ground networks.

WPD is also investing a further £350,000 in a three-year supply of Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd's acclaimed Horizon 33kV outdoor circuit breakers. Again there is an option to extend the contract by a further 12 months.

Utilising a patented, low energy, magnetic actuator design, Horizon circuit breakers can be used with other products from Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd to provide new, cost-effective and compact substations or to update existing substations by replacing old and obsolete equipment.

Steve Dymond, Sales and Marketing Director at Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd said: “We are extremely proud of our long standing relationship with WPD and are delighted that the company is continuing to invest in our products.

“When it comes to reliability and safety, our Eclipse, Horizon and GVR systems have a proven track record in the UK and around the world and we look forward to working closely with WPD over the next few years as they continue to improve their services to customers over a 26,000 sq km area of South West England and South and West Wales” he added.
